Not sure if this is the best place to bring this question up, but as I've been getting great mileage out of some of the older discussions on canon/fanon here, it seemed like it might be appropriate.

Since getting into the fandom, I've noticed a lot of what folks take as canon, or at least popular fanon (names of the various UNCLE Sections, secret entrances to headquarters, Napoleon's dead wife and Illya's love of jazz) came from original production notes, but never actually turned up in the show. I know parts of those notes were sent out with early publicity material, and seem to have been referenced in related publications from the time like the annuals, though I'm not sure in how much detail. Fragments have been reproduced in various places such as DVD extras, and more complete versions have obviously been referenced in John Heitland's book and a number of webpages, but none of these reproduce them verbatim. I've spent a while poking around to see how much the production bible and/or material from promotional booklets I could track down, and figured I ought to see if anyone here could help me out.

The character bios for Napoleon and Illya at least I've found in full online, reproduced on LJ here. They're also included in the extras of one of the DVDs (the five movies collection) that I've got hold of, though disappointingly there wasn't much else in there.

Parts of an old promotional booklet sent out to advertisers are reproduced in an old fanzine from around 1980 that I found on archive.org – but given that only parts of the full bios are included there, I'm presuming the other sections were similarly abbreviated. Still, there's a fair bit of detail there on the UNCLE organisation, a short bio for Mr Waverly that I haven't seen elsewhere, and even a line about Heather McNabb:
